After the bucket of bones incident I heard, "Oh, so you like that kind of thing? Do you want a marmot?"

Why, yes. Please.

Never turn down a free marmot.

That's my new motto.

How To Answer Politely {when handed a bucket of bones}

What do you say when someone hands you a bucket and says, "Can you just take what you want out of this and throw away the rest?"

It depends entirely on what's in the bucket, but if it contains a bear skull, say yes.

If it contains two bear skulls, say yes and grab the bucket with both hands.

A tiny bird skull?

Why yes! That will do too.

Ditto the rat.

And if there is something of wolfish proportions, all the better.

But if there is a mountain sheep in that bucket? 

Say Oui! Oui! Oui!

Profer kisses.

Tuck it under your arm and disappear quickly.

Before she has a chance to change her mind.

Vintage Vials

Vintage watchmaker's vials.

Worn corks and handwritten labels are rather fetching.

Occasionally a splash of red.

A rare find, these stout little handblown vials reside in a hinged oak case.

Screw tops are a little more modern, but the weathered labels retain a vintage charm.

Tiny vials are ideal for organizing one's teeth and spare bones.

I don't know about you, but I always try to keep my teeth organized.

 

Sepia

A darling friend stopped by this weekend. In amongst the artwork and copious quantities of home baking, she helped sort out the studio. Filed here. Organized there. Made little arrangements and vignettes. Things have been shuffling into place. It's once again a serene space. Comfortable. Quiet. And happy.

Jetons {a conclusion}

Congratulations to Georges of Brooklyn, who guessed correctly!

Game chips, or Jetons, these are very very old, very very thin, and very very French.

The pips are etched and coloured by hand, with an assortment of trèfles, carreaux, and cœurs, but no piques.

The prize? Three of these beautiful jetons, one of each suit. Georges, please forward your address.
