Cabinet cards were introduced in the 1860s, first for horizontal views, and later, for portraiture. A wealth of these cards still exists, and the cards themselves provide great creative fodder. Nubbly edges, embossed textures and borders, scrollwork and flourishy script advertising fine photographic studios.
With a little trimming in photoshop, cabinet cards become perfect frames for modern day photographs
